The Native people of Canada gave Jacques Cartier and his men a “preparation” made of pine bark and its needles. Well documented sources including Jacques Cartier’s journals indicate that they were helped with the pine bark preparation given to them by the Native People of Canada.

During his second voyage to Canada in 1535-1935, French explorer Jacques Cartier and his men sailed up the St-Lawrence River and spent the winter months in Stadacona (Quebec City, Canada).
